More than $100,000 was raised for the Ferrahian Armenian School Scholarship Fund March 28 at a dinner banquet held at Avedissian Hall.
Attended by some 600 guests–the money raised will be used to fund the education of students from financially challenged families.
Acting as master of ceremonies–Saturday School principal Neshan Kulukian introduced the distinguished guests in attendance–which included representatives of the ARF "Rosdom" Gomideh–the ARS–Hamazkayin–Homenetmen and ANC.
Sarkis Derderian was also present at the March 28 event on behalf of the Armenian School Board of Regents–and Reverend Viken Vassilian was on hand representing Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian–Prelate of the Western Prelacy of America.
Vassilian congratulated the organizers of the event–and reminded all that it was within the walls of Armenian schools that future leaders were bred–and said everyone should do their utmost to give as much as they could to schools–which could not survive without their help.
Vassilian also singled out benefactor Manuel Sassounian–whose contributions to Ferrahian over the years had totaled some $100,000–and declared him and his wife honorary president’s of the evening.
Vasilian also recognized Mr. and Mrs. John Bedrossian and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Galian–who have also made sizable donations over the years.
Ferrahian principal Dr. Marzbed Margossian spoke next–thanking all guests and reminding everyone the school was the first of its kind in the country.
Financial Committee representative Lina Davtian also spoke–pointing out this was the first time in school history that more than $50,000 was raised before the luncheon. Gary and Shake Avakian made the donation to make this piece of history possible. Vatche ended the evening with musical entertainment.
