ENCINO–This year’s annual banquet marking the consecration of the Holy Martyrs Church was quite successful in raising the funds necessary for the reconstruction of Ferrahian High School’s original campus. The generous donation of $50,000 by Valentine Sarafian and Asadour and Dianna Sarafian–in memory of their husband and father Yeghia Sarafian–was praised by Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirosian. In appreciation of the Sarafian family’s unselfish deed–the Board of Trustees will name their meeting place the "Yeghia Sarafian" Hall.
Attending the November 4 banquet at Avedissian hall were representatives of the Western Prelacy Executive Council–the Armenian Relief Society Regional Executive–the Board of Regents of the Prelacy Armenian schools–the Armenian Revolutionary Federation San Fernando Valley Rosdom chapter–Ferrahian school finance committee–the Armenian-American Council of Aging–as well as community members and supporters of the church and the school.
In her opening remarks–Mistress of Ceremonies Azadouhi Ghazarian stressed the important role of the Armenian Church in not only providing spiritual guidance to the people–but also in its historic function as a source of leadership in the national life of Armenia’s. She also recognized the central character of the Church in the emergence of numerous educational institutions and cultural organizations throughout the Diaspora.
Following a prayer by Holy Martyrs church pastor Rev. Razmig Khachadourian–church Board of Trustees chairman Dr. Garo Chakian addressed the gathering–detailing the plans for the expansion of the church–as well as the reconstruction of the school’s original campus.
The final speaker for the evening was Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian–who praised the community for its generosity in heeding the call for the betterment of the Holy Martyrs church facility.
The prelate also praised Rev. Khachadourian–who in cooperation with the board of trustees–has spared nothing in realizing the renovation project.
An advertising booklet was also published for the event–containing congratulatory messages from the Prelate–the board of trustees and the ARF Rosdom chapter–among others.
Entire proceeds from this event will be allocated toward the construction of the Ferrahian campus.
Entertainment for the evening was provided by George Baghdoian and his band.
