YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Over $1.372 million was allocated for the implementation of seven scientific projects in Armenia during the April meeting of the International Scientific and Technical Center (ISTC). The projects refer to the researches in the spheres of ecology–genetics and information technologies–Head of the ISTC Armenian Regional Department Hamlet Navassardian said at a June 10 news conference in Yerevan–emphasizing that this testifies to the presence of high scientific potential in Armenia. The ISTC representatives–who are in Armenia presently–also share this opinion.
As a result if the researches–it will be possible to work out measures for promoting security–reliability and effectiveness of the Armenian nuclear power plant–estimate the degree of pollution of reservoirs–and create an environment of highly productive calculations and database.
Armenian scientists have cooperated with ISTC since 1995 in spheres connected with the main mission of the center: to prevent dissemination of mass destruction weapons producing technologies and to support conversion programs. So far–the ISTC has financed 81 projects in Armenia–allocating a total of $14 million. The main difference between the ISTC programs and other scientific funds is the fact that they are aimed at further prospects and the possible commercialization of researches. In this connection–ISTC finances the whole process of carrying out the researches–including the salaries–equipment–trips and patenting.
Hamlet Navassardian said that as a result of the ISTC activities in Armenia–an infrastructure is being created–which will help to coordinate large-scale researches–operating several scientific centers both within the country and between the countries.
In their turn–ISTC representatives stated that they are also expecting the assistance of the government in their activities.
