22 Years Ago Today Artur Mkrtchyan Was Elected Artsakh’s First President

On January 9, 1992 Artur Mkrtchyan was elected the first President of the Parliament of an independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Mkrtchyan, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, was able to transcend his experience on the battlefield into the governing a new country and on to the diplomatic arena.

His short time as leader of a free Artsakh, proved historic and his legacy still continues.

    Armenia’s problems started when Artur Mkrtchyan allegedly shot himself cleaning his gun, and the people were either naive or indifferent to ask questions…
