LOS ANGELES–On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Armenian Republic–27 new members joined the ran’s of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation during an oath ceremony Saturday–presided over by veteran ARF member Avedis Ispendjian.
The new members joined the large and growing ARF family and through their oath brought their willingness and dedication toward the realization of the Armenian Cause and pledged to become active pursuers of the aspirations of the Armenian people.
In his remarks–Ispendjian welcomed the new members to the ran’s and stated that "you have–by your free will–joined the ran’s of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. And by putting forth all your abilities–and if need be your life–you have pledged to commit yourself to the ARF and the pursuit of its political and national ideals."
Ispendjian recounted the experiences of Karekin Njdeh when he was joining ran’s–and urged the new members to become entrenched in the ARF–to become acquainted with its rich traditions and history which were handed down by the founders of the party.
"The ARF is a party of action–due to that generation which worked–fought–was martyred and buried its life in dark [prison] cells and gave its last breaths on the gallows… A generation which carved a nation and a homeland and rebuilt a state," remarked Ispendjian.
The ARF Western Region Central Committee chairman Dr. Viken Hovsepian also welcomed the new members to the ran’s and stated that while the recent changes in Armenia may appear to have eased the work of the party–however in reality working under seemingly peaceful circumstances is far more difficult and requires more drive.
Hovsepian underlined the imperative of being a revolutionary–adding that being a revolutionary is not inherent but rather a choice.
Hovsepian added that a wide arena of opportunity existed to work–and expressed confidence that each new member would enrich the party ran’s through their personal input–contribution and initiative.
In conclusion each new member received a copy of the ARF centennial Album-Atlas–which was a generous gift by fellow ARF member Adroushan Mardirossian of the "Karekin Njdeh" gomideh–and a copy of the memoirs of Karekin Njdeh.
An independence day celebration gathering was held the same evening at the "Avedissian" hall of Ferrahian Armenian school.
The festivities were organized by the San Fernando Valley ARF "Rosdom" gomideh and attracted more than 650 community members in attendance. An address was presented by Khatchig Titizian and entertainment was provided by Hovig Krikorian.
