YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Inspection Service of the Ministry of Nature and Wildlife Protection of Armenia inspected 356 large-sizes companies and uncovered 397 environmental safety violations.
According to ministry spokeswoman Yekaterina Alexanian–Ararat Cement Works No. 2 was among the major violators. Its waste dust polluted the environment and was deemed a health hazard for the population.
Illegal timber companies were also among the top violators. They had been fined a total of 40,000 to 100,000 drams.
Fifty officials and civilians were also fined a total of 218,200 drams for polluting the environment.
