YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A total of 4,241 people have been pardoned in Armenia in accordance with the amnesty resolution passed by the National Assembly and timed to the 7th anniversary of Armenia’s independence–Major-General Vagharshak Vardanian–who runs the penalty enforcement department of the Prosecutor’s Office–said in an Noyan Tapan interview.
789 of those pardoned had been sentenced to three years in prison–106 – to five years in prison–13 of them being women and 4 minors. Amnesty was also applied in relation to 1,716 people whose sentences did not imply imprisonment. Under the amnesty resolution–the terms of imprisonment of 99 prisoners were cut in half. Also–the terms of imprisonment of 39 prisoners were cut by a third and of 103–by a quarter.
