YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Forty churches and monasteries will be reconstructed in Armenia by 2001–when the country will be celebrating the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity as a state religion.
The head of the commission on the organization of the 1700th anniversary festivals–Archbishop Mesrob Ashdjian told Noyan Tapan that the reconstruction of 12 churches with funds from local and foreign philanthropists is in full swing. "There are several hundreds of destroyed churches in Armenia," said the Archbishop.
"We don’t want to appear before the world as ruins during the celebrations but duly–with reconstructed churches," he said.
