YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Local elections were held in 54 communities of the Tavush region on October 24–and in 51 communities members of councils of elders were elected. 5 of the 54 newly elected heads of village communities are women.
Of 89,071 eligible voters in the region 48,900 people went to the polls on Sunday–55 percent of the total number of eligible voters. The voter turnout in Noyemberian was incomparably higher–a whopping 75 percent–where 7 candidates were running for mayor.
No incidents were reported during the elections process in Tavush. Only one candidate in the village of Tsakhkavan applied to the regional electoral commission complaining about the procedure used by the district commission in establishing the validity of ballot-papers.
