YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The National Assembly of Armenia made a decision Tuesday to announce amnesty to coincide with the Sept. 21 Independence Day.
According to Justice Minister David Haroutiunian–the amnesty will not extend on crimes attended with violence or threat of violence. 920 prisoners will be released as a result of the amnesty. Many other cases will also be dismissed. The number of people who serve their sentences on probation will decrease.
An interim commission will be assigned to supervise the course of the amnesty. It will include one representative from each faction and deputy group as well as a representative from independent deputies.
