YEREVAN (Arka)—The liberalization of the aviation industry in Armenia will speed up economic growth for the country by up to one to two percent, according to Armenia’s Minister of Economy Vahram Avanesyan who spoke on Wednesday at a cabinet session, which approved a program of actions to develop air traffic.
Avanesyan said growth will be ensured by further development of the tourism industry and related services, since liberalization of aviation will lead to improvements in airline service quality and a decrease in ticket prices.
Avanesyan stressed that liberalization implies removal of all obstacles for local and foreign air carriers.
“Any company that meets certain technical standards can operate flights,” he said. “There will be no restrictions for frequency of flights, for sizes or models of aircrafts or destinations.”
In July, the Armenian government ordered a careful study of Armenia’s air traffic to McKinsey & Company to develop a program of measures based on the results of the study.
From October 22 to 25, 2013, the National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia, in partnership with Air Arabia airlines, will be host to a delegation of major Indian media representatives in Armenia.
Among the invitees are representatives from DNA newspaper, the Travel XP channel, Hindustan Times Brunch, Lonely Planet, Business India, and Outlook Traveler magazines.
The objective of the trip is to increase Armenia’s visibility in the Indian tourism market as an attractive travel destination and stimulate inbound touristic flows.
During the trip the journalists will explore various tourist attractions of Armenia and will have the opportunity to enjoy the rich historical, cultural and spiritual heritage of the country, as well as national traditions and modern life in the country.
The trip will result in a series of publications, photos and a television program about Armenia.
