A meeting was organized by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Western US Central Committee in preparation for the celebration for the tenth anniversary of the Nagorno-Karabakh liberation struggle which it is sponsoring. Among those invited were the regional executives of Hamazkayin–Armenian Relief Society–Homenetmen; the Prelacy Executive Council; and representatives of compatriotic unions–cultural organizations–athletic organizations–as well as intellectuals–and individuals with experience in the public sphere.
The meeting was held on Monday–December 23–1997–at 7:30 p.m.–at St. Mary’s Armenian Church’s Armenag Der Bedrossian Hall. In his opening remarks–a Central Committee representative defined the nature of the planned celebration and stressed its significance–and invited the chairperson of the Steering Committee to deliver detailed explanations of the February 1998 month-long celebrations.
Participants were provided with a written outline of events–prepared by the Steering Committee. A question and answer session ensued.
Participants were then asked to choose a committee with which they would start working immediately. Committees include: Walkathon Committee–Festival Committee–Financial Committee–Youth Events Committee–Publications Committee.
Encouraged by this successful meeting and general promptness–we stress that these celebratory events dedicated to the liberation struggle of Nagorno-Karabakh and its heroic people deserve the cooperation of the entire community–a larger number of volunteers and religious support.
