YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Arsen Gasparian told Armenpress Thursday that Armenia welcomed mediation efforts by the Islamic Republic of Iran to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
In response to recent press accounts which suggested that Iran was offering to mediate the conflict–Gasparian stated that Iranian mediation could ensure mutual trust among the parties to the conflict.
He stressed–however–that per a decision of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe during its summit in Budapest in 1995–the 54-nation grouping was the only organization which could directly mediate a conflict resolution.
Gasparian–once again–reiterated that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved under the auspices of the OSCE.
