YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Karabakh President Arkady Ghoukassian signed a decree Monday appointing Slava Avanesian Secretary of Karabakh’s Security Council.
Avanesian was born in 1947 in the village of Seisulan in the Mardakert region. He left school in 1966 to work as secretary of the Komsomol committee of the Centralist works in Charentsavan. Avanesian studied at the department of law of Yerevan State University and at the same time worked as investigator for the interior agencies in the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region from 1968 to 1972. He graduated from Yerevan State University in 1976. From 1972 to 1980 he ran legal services at the Head Department of Motor Technical Service and the Head Department of Foreign Tourism at the Council of Ministers of Armenia.
Since 1991–he has been chairman of the Board of the Association of Tourism of Armenia. Avanesian is married and has two sons. His oldest son was martyred in the Karabakh war near Martakert in 1992.
