BAKU (Noyan Tapan)–Sheikh-ul-islam Allahshukur Pasha-zade–the spiritual leader of the Muslims in the Caucasus–received an invitation from Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin II to take part in the festivities marking the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity.
Allahshukur Pasha-Zade told journalists that in his letter–Karekin II says that the visit of the spiritual leader of the Moslems in the Caucasus to Yerevan "could to a certain degree be instrumental in reducing tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan and have a positive impact on as well as give a fresh impetus to the Karabakh peace process."
But it is yet unclear whether the spiritual leader of Azerbaijan’s Moslems will accept the invitation or not. "It is his choice and his right to invite me. As for the form of our participation–whether or not we reply to the letter is up to us," explained Sheikh-ul-islam.
