YEREVAN–The unresolved Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the number one threat to Armenia’s national security, Armenia’s Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said Wednesday, Trend news agency reported.
The main military threat facing Armenia is the lack of a mutually accepted political and legal framework for resolving the conflict, he said at a lecture in Yerevan on the Black Sea Security program.
Ohanyan noted that Azerbaijan’s increasing buildup of arms, its policy of military superiority over Armenia, and its advocacy of a military solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict all pose security “concerns” to Armenia. He added that Azerbaijan’s drive to destabilize the region and isolate Armenia also threaten to rekindle the region’s existing conflicts and ignite new ones.
