GLENDALE—Soroptimist International of The Verdugo Club will host its Annual Program Awards Dinner and Live Your Dream Campaign on Wednesday, March 23, from 6:30 p.m., at the Overtime Bar and Grill Restaurant, located at 933 North Brand Boulevard, Glendale, California 91202. Club awards and certificates of recognition from the City Mayor and other legislative offices will be presented to all the recipients.
The three award categories and respective recipients are as follows:
Ruby Award – The recipient is Dr. Frieda Jordan, president of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry. The Soroptimist Ruby Award was named after the first Soroptimist Federation president, Ruby Lee Minar. The Ruby Award honors women who, through their professional or personal efforts, are making an extraordinary difference in the lives of women or girls. Honorees are women who have worked to improve the lives of other women or girls. Their work has had a significant impact, and also inspires and encourages others.
Women’s Opportunity Awards – The recipients are Roxanne Perez (winner) and Ana Ramirez (runner-up). The Women’s Opportunity Awards program is Soroptimist’s major women’s education project. Through the program, clubs in 19 countries and territories assist women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects.
Violet Richardson Awards – The recipients are Melissa Hu (winner), Good Dog-Dog Talk Adoption Program; Emily Cardinas (runner-up), Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and Girl Scout Troop 1511; and Ani Misirian (runner-up), Roosevelt Middle School. Seven other young women will receive Honorable Mentions – Naris Barseghian, Kristen Burroughs, Andrea Castillo, Elia Ganon, Lisa Oglian, Katherine Propper, and Marian Sarkissian. This Soroptimist program recognizes young women between the ages of 14 and 17 for volunteer services to the community. It honors young women who are caring, compassionate, creative, and, most of all, committed to making the world a better place.
Winners of the club-level awards will compete for additional recognition at other levels of the Soroptimist organization.
Soroptimist is an International volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.
