ARLINGTON (ANC)–In the first of a series of grassroots efforts to help Armenian Americans cast fully informed ballots this election season–the Armenian American Democratic Leadership Council (AADLC) sent mailers this week to more than two thousand New Hampshire Armenian American households–outlining the views of the Democratic candidates on the Armenian Genocide.
The January 20 letter–sent just days before the January 27 New Hampshire primary–noted the AADLC’s pride in how "so many of the Democratic presidential candidates have such strong records supporting Armenian American issues-from Genocide recognition and Karabagh–to foreign aid and the expansion of USArmenia trade." The letter–signed by AADLC representative Tsoghig Margossian–also reminded Armenian American voters about the consistent support of Democratic office-holders for Armenian issues. Citing the example of the Genocide Resolution currently before Congress–Margossian noted that "more than 80% of the US Senate cosponsors of the legislation are Democrats (29 of 35); on the House side–75% of the cosponsors are Democrats (83 of 111)."
The AADLC mailing featured a listing of selected statemen’s by the Democratic Presidential candidates on the Armenian Genocide. All except Gov. Howard Dean have records of supporting US recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The mailer also included a brief review of the Bush Administration’s policies on Armenian American issues–most notably his broken 2000 campaign pledge to recognize the Armenian Genocide. The full text of both the AADLC letter and the Bush Administration review can be found at www.aadlc.org.
Margossian closed the letter by stressing–"more important than who you vote for–is that you vote. So–please–make a special point of calling and emailing relatives–friends–and Armenian community members about the importance of getting out to the polls on Tuesday."
