MOSCOW–The Moscow prosecutor’s office began an investigation into the dealings of former chief economic advisor to Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev and the current director of Russian Academy of Economics Abel Aghanbegyan–reported the Kommersant Daily on Friday.
Aghanbegyan is suspected in the misuse of his position and illegal involvement in entrepreneurial activity. He is suspected of transferring buildings belonging to the Academy of Economics to the AOA Higher School of International Business.
What triggered the investigation was the report of an audit by the Accounting Chamber
The auditors discovered that a large part of the property the Economics Academy was privatized without the approval of the government. Currently– 99.1 percent of the property of the Academy is owned by the stock company "Higher School of international Business," the president–and one of the founders of which–is Aghanbegyan.
