YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–In 1992–one of Armenia’s largest energy generating thermal power plants did not receive a scheduled delivery of 1,680 tanks of crude oil paid for by the government. Another 40-50 tanks containing crude oil have disappeared on Armenian territory–David Lokian of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation said at a press briefing last week. Lokian runs the ad hoc commission looking into the energy fuel imports and use of energy generated in Armenia in 1992-1994.
Without revealing the names of those who abused their office–Lokian said that there were also indications that the thermal power plant did in fact receive the crude oil but failed to generate the corresponding amounts of energy. The oil was written off instead and later used by public utilities.
Lokian assured that from now on the commission will present the results of any investigation it conducted. The 10-member commission is down two members. Vahan Zatikian died over a month ago–and Andranik Manoukian was heavily wounded in the October 27 attack on the parliament and has been hospitalized. Both represented the Unity bloc.
