Melkonian High School will be presenting a charter petition to the PUSD on Thursday, Feb. 27

Founders of Melkonian High School have announced that they will be presenting a petition for a charter high school to the Pasadena Unified School District in a public hearing. The presentation will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.at the PUSD Elbie J. Hickambottom Board Room, located at 351 S. Hudson Ave., Room 236, Pasadena, CA 91109.

PUSD Board members, pre-registered MHS students, community members, and supporters will be in attendance.

Melkonian High School will be the first and only high school in the PUSD, surrounding districts, and Western United States to offer students mandatory Armenian language and history courses, as well as a number of global language courses, including Italian, Russian, German, French, and Spanish. The charter school, which currently has nearly 200 students pre-registered, will be located in Pasadena, CA.

Melkonian Global Overture, the Foundation which has initiated this project, is an organization which seeks out innovative solutions and immediate responses to the existing challenges, while engaging and empowering the youth to reach their full potential.

The closure of Pasadena’s AGBU Vatche & Tamar Manoukian High School has created a vacuum that needs immediate remedy.

President of MGO and Visionary Founder of MHS Arsine Shirvanian and co-founder of MHS Maro Yacoubian are spearheading the establishment of Melkonian high School.

All parents, students, community members, and supporters are urged to attend the public hearing in show of support.

Abriss! We need more Armenian school: public, charter and especially private schools of all stripes; all boys, coed, Waldorf, IB schools: we should have 50% at least of all Armenian kids attending Armenian schools in the USA as our goal: to produce a generation of top scholars, involved in American and Armenian life equally and to save Western Armenian and transform it into a vibrant language spoken in all realms like English with a renewed press and cultural institutions. New books, newspapers, TV stations and shows, films, theatrical plays and musicals.
