MONTREAL–The Armenian National Committee of Canada hosted a cocktail event at the Armenian Community Center of Montreal in honor of Sen. Marcel Prud’homme’s 40th year in public service. In addition to Prud’homme’s close circle of friends and colleagues–guests included a number of Armenian community representatives–who worked closely with the senator throughout the years.
As a token of appreciation–Prud’homme was given a work of art created entirely with flower petals–depicting an Armenian scene. Presenting the work was Dr. Girair Basmadjian–president of the Armenian National Committee of Canada who said–"When our community was still young Sen. Prud’homme was our only friend in Parliament–and was always present at all our events and commemorations of the Armenian genocide."
Deeply moved by this display–Sen. Prud’homme thanked the audience for its constant encouragement and support. Referring to the members of the Armenian Youth Organization of Canada present at the event–the senator moved on to speak about the importance of youth involvement in the realm of politics and the new generation’s unique role in perpetuating the struggle for justice.
At the end of the evening–Prud’homme was given a poster board that bore the signatures of those present at the event in honor of his 40 years of service.
