The Armenian National Committee of Greece recently sent a statement to 25 Greek members of the European Union in reaction to the body’s decision to label the August 11 Nagorno Karabakh presidential elections as illegitimate.
Citing an official statement of the Minsk Group–the Armenian National Committee of Greece argues that the government of Nagorno Karabakh not only plays a decisive role in the peace negotiations–but should also be represented by democratically elected officials. Noting that the elections will assist the peace process–the letter moves on to state that "the right to self-determination is represented through elections. Legality and stability are not only desired–but are also indispensable to Nagorno Karabakh–even when its fate remains uncertain."
In its closing paragraph–the letter notes that any signs of doubt and misgiving originate from Azerbaijan. "Only those individuals representative of the peoples’ will be capable of constructively participating in the negotiations that will bring about a lasting and acceptable solution."
