GLENDALE–The Armenian National Committee Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC) announced on Wednesday that it had endorsed Hilda Solis as the Democratic nominee for California’s 31st Congressional seat.
Solis–a highly respected Member of the California State Senate–has long been an active and effective voice for the Armenian-American community in the state legislature and has become a leading member of the increasingly powerful Latino Caucus.
Solis is challenging incumbent Matthew Martinez for the Democratic nomination in the Congressional district–which includes the cities of Alhambra–Rosemead–Monterey Park–Baldwin Park–Irwindale and parts of East Los Angeles.
In September of 1998–Martinez shocked the Armenian-American community when he voted against the retention of the Section 907 ban on US aid to Azerbaijan.
Despite Martinez’ vote–the cornerstone measure for the Armenian-American community was ultimately upheld.
"The ANC-PAC firmly believes that Hilda Solis will bring new energy and direction to the 31st Congressional District seat," stated ANC-PAC representative Nshan Bostanian.
"Hilda has quickly emerged as a highly respected legislator in Sacramento and we are confidant that effectiveness will be duplicated in Washington– as a member of Congress," concluded Bostanian.
