LOS ANGELES–A recent fundraiser to support California Congressman Howard Berman’s reelection campaign raised over $250,000. The Armenian National Committee – Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC)–sponsored the event–along with–actor Richard Dreyfuss–and billionaire developer and philanthropist Eli Broad.
Congressman Berman represents California’s 28th District–which covers a large portion of the San Fernando Valley–and is home to over 100,000 Armenian Americans.
ANC-PAC Chairman Leonard Manoukian said his organization is proud to sponsor Congressman Berman because of his commitment to pertinent issues. "In the last Congressional session Congressman Berman received an A+ from the ANCA for his consistent and active support for issues of concern to his Armenian American constituents in California’s San Fernando Valley. We appreciate his leadership in making sure the voice of our community is heard in Washington–DC," Manoukian said.
Berman most recently voted in support of Armenian genocide resolutions–sponsored by Congressmen George Radanovich and Adam Schiff–which were overwhelmingly adopted by the House International Relations Committee on September 15–2005. The Congressman is a senior member of the committee and has gained increasing influence on foreign aid and human rights issues.
Attending the ANC-PAC sponsored event in support of Congressman Berman were longtime ANC supporter and former Clinton Administration appointee Michael Mahdesian–ANC sponsor Serop Beylerian–ANCA-WR Board Member Vahe Melkonian–Chairman of the East San Fernando Valley ANC Chapter Manoug Haladjian–and ANCA Board Member Raffi Hamparian.
The ANC-PAC is a non-partisan federally registered political action committee that supports campaign committees for Members of Congress who share the values of the Armenian American community. The organization seeks to ensure that Armenian Americans are engaged in public policy issues facing national political leaders–and that their voice is heard both in the US Congress and the White House.
