
BURBANK—The Armenian National Committee of America-Burbank announced that three Armenian-Americans were appointed to serve on three Commissions in the City of Burbank: Armond Aghakhanian, on the Park, Recreation and Community Services Board; Garen Yegparian, on the Sustainable Burbank Commission; and Vahe Hovanessian was re-appointed on the Burbank Unified School D
istrict Facilities Oversight Committee, where he was just re-elected as chair. Armond Aghakhanian was also appointed to the Burbank Unified School District Facilities Oversight Committee.

Armond Aghakhanian is a Participating Professor at Woodbury University (Burbank), where for the past six years he has been teaching courses in business, management, organizational leadership and government. He is currently a Doctoral candidate in Organizational Leadership at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology. Armond earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Woodbury University and his Bachelors of Art in Political Science from California State University, Northridge. He was appointed to the Park, Recreation and Community Services Board and Burbank Unified School District Facilities Oversight Committee, overseeing “Measure S” a general obligation bond, which will bring $110 million into the Burbank Unified School District for infrastructure upgrades, technology upgrades, and security improvements.Armond has also served on the Burbank Community Development Goals Committee, Burbank Civic Pride Committee and currently serves on the Burbank and Greater East Valley Boys and Girls Club Advisory Board.

Garen Yegparian is a longtime resident, volunteer, and active member of the Burbank community. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in chemical engineering and for the past ten years has worked for the City of Los Angeles in the City Clerk’s office as a technical research analyst. Yegparian was appointed to the Burbank Sustainable Burbank Commission after years of serving on the Burbank Charter Review Committee, the Blue Ribbon Committee on Campaign Finance Reform, and the Burbank Community Development Goals Committee. Outside of government, he has worked to bring people together by working with the ANCA-Burbank and the Burbank Human Relations Council.
Vahe Hovanessian, Esq. is a practicing attorney at the Law Office of Vahe Hovanessian, handling general civil and criminal matters through trial including family law, employment, contract and personal injury. Hovanessian graduated with a juris doctor from the San Fernando Valley College of Law of the University of La Verne and a bachelor of arts in political science from UCLA. He volunteers for the Burbank Public Library Literacy Services Department and is trained to help adults quickly learn to read with the phonics method. Hovanessian also volunteers his time as an assistant coach for his son’s basketball Jr. NBA team for Ararat Homenetmen. He currently serves as the re-elected Chair of the Burbank Unified School District Facilities Oversight Committee that oversees expenditures of the recently passed bond funds. Prior to his current service, Hovanessian served as a boardmember and Chair of the Burbank Water and Power Board and as a boardmember and Chair of the City of Burbank Planning Board.
