More than 70 Members of Congress cosponsor solemn observance; weeklong Capitol Hill photo exhibit of Armenian Genocide survivors to complement Congressional Armenian Genocide remembrance.
WATERTOWN–The 8th Annual Capitol Hill observance of the Armenian Genocide–set for Wednesday–April 17–has been cosponsored by over 60 members of Congress–reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
In the past several weeks–Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA)–Lincoln Chafee (R-RI)–John Ensign (R-NV)–Carl Levin (D-MI) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) as well as Representatives Rod R. Blagojevich (D-IL 5)–Gary A. Condit (D-CA 18)–Joseph Crowley (D-NY 7)–Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA 14)–Bob Filner (D-CA 50)–Steve Horn (R-CA 38)–Patrick Kennedy (D-RI 1)–Zoe Lofgren (D-CA 16)–Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY 14)–Jim McDermott (D-WA 7)–George Miller (D-CA 7)–Jerrold Nadler (D-NY 8)–Nancy Pelosi (D-CA 8)–Loretta Sanchez (D-CA 46)–Brad Sherman (D-CA 24)–Hilda Solis (D-CA 31)–and Maxine Waters (D-CA 35) joined the Armenian National Committee of America and several dozen other Members of Congress in cosponsoring the 8th Annual ANCA Capitol Hill Observance of the Armenian Genocide.
The solemn remembrance will consist of a program and reception on Wednesday–April 17–in the Gold Room (Rm. 2168) of the Rayburn House Office Building–from 6 to 8 p.m. This observance offers Members of Congress the opportunity to commemorate the Armenian Genocide with their constituents and other members of the Armenian American community – including survivors of the Armenian Genocide – as well as with leaders of human rights organizations–the diplomatic community–and members of the clergy.
The Armenian American community is cordially invited to join Members of Congress in marking the 87th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
