WASHINGTON–According to "Ankara Anatolia" news agency in Turkey–the "Turkish Forum" institute will soon launch a letter writing campaign to counteract the Armenian National Committee of America’s "million for the millennium" postcard campaign which asks US Presidential candidates to articulate their position on the Armenian Genocide. With less than three months to go before the presidential primaries–the ANCA initiative has generated hundreds of thousands of postcards to the Republican and Democratic presidential front-runners–Al Gore–Bill Bradley–George Bush–Jr.–John McCain and Steve Forbes.
According to the Turkish report–the New York based Turkish Forum is asking "Turkish citizens living in the United States to write letters" to the aforementioned candidates asking them "not to believe such lies and not to disregard historical facts." The Turkish Forum asks letter writers to insert the following passage in their correspondence:
"British armies which occupied Istanbul–the capital of the Ottoman Empire–in 1919 and 1920 arrested 140 Turks and sent to Malta Island to exile. One of the allegations about these 140 was to organize the Armenian Genocide. However the British intelligence organizations and the US institutions found no evidence of a genocide as a result of their long researches and the Malta trail ended without any allegations."
The ANCA postcard campaign has also generated a number ofelectronic hate messages and letters from Turks around the world. One message stated: Hello Dear,
Its been a century you have been tearing your a****–but it takes people with brains to realize that you can’t achieve your goals in the several following centuries. He he. Being Armenian–you must lick [expletive deleted] to pull up your country–make us believe you behave–will behave and f*** out of Karabakh. If I were the leader here–I would f*** up Armenia for what she did in Karabakh–throwing 1 million Turks out. That is lived today not a century ago. I like my dentist Varujan–wonderful man–but f*** the rest of Armenia’s. Yasemin Sonmez
"Regrettably–as the Turkish Government’s actions and the hate messages indicate–Turkish hysteria on the Armenian Genocide issue persists," stated the Executive Director of the ANCA-WR Vicken Sonentz-Papazian–"Nonetheless–the ANC is pleased to announce that we are on target to meet our one million postcard goal–which is a result of hard work by our community ," concluded Sonentz-Papazian.
