BAKU (Trend)—Ankara has denied reports that Turkey would allow Russian shipments to its military base in Gumri, the Turkish embassy in Baku confirmed Monday after reports circulated last week alleging that after last month’s visit by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to Turkey, the two countries agreed to such a scenario.
With the closure of the Russia-Georgia border after last summer’s war, Russia effectively has no route to its base in Gumri
The Turkish Embassy said that media reports on August 13 alleging Russian transfer of equipment via Turkish airspace were “without any foundation.”
The embassy also said that Turkey’s position on Azerbaijan was well known and spread such information aimed to hinder the friendship and the fraternal relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan.
To resupply the Russian base in Gumri, Armenia, all Russia has to do is *fly* the men and equipment in.
You know, by airplanes – those things with wings?
If necessary, Russian planes can go through Iran and then north up into Armenia.
I don’t quite see the problem, and I suspect that there really isn’t any.
And if Russia supplies Georgia with most of its vitally-needed natural gas, it is hard to understand why Russia would not have the clout to simply demand that Georgia allow Russian equipment to be shipped overland,
