YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–An event held on July 26 at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall upon the initiative of the National Self-Determination Union was dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the population of Armenian settlemen’s in liberated territories.
Head of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Arch. Pargev Martirossian blessed the event. He emphasized that it is necessary to feel responsibility for being masters of historical Armenian lands.
Karabakh Parliament Speaker Oleg Yesayan read out Karabakh President Ghoukassian’s message addressed to the organizers and participants in the event in which he expressed gratitude to all people dedicated to the cause of the liberation of Artsakh.
Yesayan said that some 14,000 people have settled down in the villages–due to the government’s policy of populating the liberated regions.
Yesayan also praised the leader of the Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikian who was the first man to have realized the strategic importance of populating the liberated territories in 1992.
Writer and publicist Zory Balayan pointed out that in the summer of 1992–when people thought about returning territories–the National Self-Determination Union began the restoration of Armenian settlemen’s. According to him–in this part of historical Armenia UNSD members played a crucial role in further processes.
Forty-three freedom-fighters who died in the name of the liberation and restoration of historical Armenian lands–were awarded with Artsakh orders posthumously.
