ANTILLIAS, Lebanon–His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia strongly condemned the recent persecution of Christian in Iraq, especially the recent violence against Christians in the city of Mosul. The Catholicos urged the Iraqi government to stop at nothing to stop the violence and persecution.
The Catholicos made the announcement at a Christian-Muslim international conference in Geneva, and called on the World Council of Churches, over which he presided for many years, to make a similar condemnation.
“The Middle East is the cradle of Christianity and Christians are equal citizens in the region within all countries in which they reside. We are confident that the Iraqi government will take the necessary steps to end the irresponsible acts committed against Christians,” said Aram I in his appeal to the Iraqi government.
