ANTELLIAS–Lebanon–His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia highly praised all those who–in the last few days–have expressed their concern and support via telephone–e-mails or faxes following the continuing Israeli bombing of Lebanon and the devastation it has caused in that country.
"On this occasion we would like to assure that the attacks are concentrated on the southern areas in Lebanon. The Armenian community of Lebanon is in no way subject to danger. The Armenia’s of Lebanon and all their structures continue their normal lives. Now–more than ever–the Armenian community of Lebanon is united and is closely following the developmen’s of the situation," the Catholicos said in a statement released by the Catholicosate.
"We pray that the attacks cease soon and complete and ever lasting peace is established in Lebanon and the Middle East," added the pontiff.
Aram I said that lasting peace should begin in Middle East before reaching Western states–explaining that the UN–the European Union and the Arab World should be engaged in the process.
In light of the situation in Lebanon–Aram I has issued a pontifical circular to all prelacies of the Catholicosate of Cilicia–asking them to support Lebanon through the Lebanese embassies and consular offices in their respective countries and by working with local leaders Lebanese Christian and Muslim communities.
All the prelacies expressed support for Lebanon–calling for an immediate and full cease-fire and began initiatives to engage their communities in the humanitarian aid efforts through Lebanese embassies in their countries–where special committees have been formed for the provision of medicine–food–clothes and other essential material to Lebanon.
