YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–His Holiness Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I addressed a message of condolences and support to President Robert Kocharian.
"The entire world is following with concern the situation in Armenia. However–despite all this we are very glad that you were able to take command of the difficult and alarming situation with bravery–wisdom and patience typical of you to prevent further complexities and put the situation at rest. In this connection we first of all express our deep condolences and simultaneously our support to you. We assure you that we and our Holy See are fully behind the fatherland and are always ready to make our contribution to the strengthening–inviolability and prosperity of the native land," His Holiness said in his message.
Aram I also addressed a message to the newly elected Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin II. Congratulating the newly elected Catholicos–he expressed his resentment over the sad events that coincided with the election. His Holiness reiterated his readiness "to act in the name of the strength–brilliance and inviolability of our Church–nation and Motherland."
"In the teeth of this alarming situation–all the sons of our people must express their unity and rally around our motherland and state," Aram I underlined.
On October 28–the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia arrived in Armenia to personally express his condolences to President Kocharian. Anointing Of Catholicos Karekin II To Take Place On November 4
The National Ecclesiastical Council and Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin II ruled to postpone the ceremony of anointing and enthronement of the Catholicos of All Armenia’s scheduled for October 31 in connection with the tragic events that took place at the National Assembly of Armenia on October 27.
The ceremony of anointing and enthronement of the 132nd Catholicos of All Armenia’s will take place instead on November 4th–Thursday–at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Etchmiadzin Cathedral in a Divine Liturgy.
Attending the ceremony will be Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I–Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem Archbishop Torgom Manoogian–Armenian Patriarch of Turkey Archbishop Mesrob Mutafyan and the senate of bishops.
Catholicos Aram I arrived in St. Etchmiadzin on October 29. At the airport His Holiness was met by Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin I. The Cilician Catholicos was accompanied by Archbishop Efrem Tatakian–Archbishop Koriun Papayan–Bishop Khajag Hakobyan and Bishop Mushegh Martirossian.
Reaching Etchmiadzin–the newly elected Catholicos Karekin II and Aram I headed for the Cathedral. After words of greeting Aram I expressed his support for the newly elected Catholicos of All Armenia’s and the dear state.
On October 31–both Catholicoses will participate in the funeral of the victims of the Oct. 27 bloodshed in the parliament.
