ATHENS–His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia–who is visiting Greece to chair an event which is organized by the Greek prelacy and dedicated to the 1700 anniversary–met with influential Greek politicians–as well as religious representatives–among them the president of Greece.
The principal meetings took place on November 2–with the President of Greece Kostantinos Stafanapulos and the Greek Parliament Speaker Apostolos Kaklaman’s. The Armenian Prelate of Greece Archbishop Sahag Aivazian–Bishop Tirayr Panosian–the chairman of National Executive office Dr. Armen Tereyan and National Executive Secretary Gegham Eaghjian were also present at the meetings.
On Saturday Catholicos Aram I awarded the Greek Parliament Speaker Apostolos Kaklaman’s with the medal of "Cilician Prince." Numerous Armenian organizations of Greece as well a Greek parliament members and other influential politicians attended the award ceremony.
Before giving the medal to Kaklaman’s–His Holiness Aram I said–"This award that we are bestowing on Parliament Speaker Kaklaman’s–is a symbol of the Armenian communities gratitude for working towards the realization of the Armenian Cause–and the efforts you have made for the Armenian community of Greece. The medal which is a symbol of our appreciation and love is for the Greek Parliament and the entire Greek nation."
In response–Speaker Kaklaman’s spoke about the Armenian Genocide and he spoke about the continuos friendship between the two peoples–which has lasted for centuries.
On November 1 Catholicos Aram I met with Greek Religious Leader Archbishop Khristotoulos in the Greek Patriarchate of Athens. Within the frameworks of the visit–this was already the third meeting between His Holiness and the Greek Archbishop within the last 3 days.
The same day and upon the invitation of the Thesaloniki University President–Catholicos Aram I gave a lecture entitled "The Ecumenical Movement and the Orthodox Churches."
