YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The establishment of the Aram Khachaturian Fund was officially announced in the Sergey Racmaninoff concert hall in Moscow on February 16. According to Silva Mekinian–the head of the "New Names" program (one of the initiatives of the establishment of the fund)–the first 12 scholars of the fund received their certificates at the presentation of the fund.
The founder of the fund are: The government of Moscow–the Embassy of Armenia in Russia–the Moscow State Conservatory after Tchaikovsky–the Russian Fund of Culture–and the "New Names" Inter-regional Benevolent Public Fund.
It was mentioned that the Fund is going to develop benevolent activities to contribute to programs that aim to preserve cultures and traditions of Russia and Armenia–and support young talented musicians. Karen Khachaturian–the composer’s son–is the President of the Fund.
The 100th jubilee of the great Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian will be marked in 2003. UNESCO has announced the year 2003 as the "Year of Khachaturian". The fund is going to participate in holding jubilee arrangemen’s. The fund will also work to collect and systemize archive documen’s–notes–audio and video tape recordings and other materials relating to the life and creative work of Khachaturian.
