Upon the invitation of other Diocesan Primate–His Eminence Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian; His Beatitude Archbishop Mesrob Moutafian–the Armenian Patriarch of Turkey–will pay his first official Patriarchal Visit to the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church and its faithful people.
His Beatitude is scheduled specifically to visit the Los Angeles Area and will meet with the representatives of the Armenian Organizations.
The major and devastating earthquake–which shook Turkey on August 17 in the regions of Izumi and Yalova–is still fresh in our minds. Thousands of people fell victim–many houses and buildings were destroyed and a great number of people were left homeless and needy.
According to the information provided by His Beatitude–the building of the Patriarchate and many Armenian Churches in that region were damaged–as well as the Holy Saviour Armenian Hospital–Armenian Schools and Armenian National Institutions. There were also Armenian victims.
The estimated cost of the total expenses to renovate the damaged buildings–is expected to be over $1,200,000.
The purpose of His Beatitude’s visit to the Western Diocese is three-fold: to secure financial assistance in order to renovate the Patrarchate; renovation of the above mentioned Armenian Churches and National Institutions and also to extend financial assistance to those individuals who are suffering because of the earthquake.
On Sunday–October 19 His Beatitude Patriarch Mesrob Moutafian will celebrate Divine Liturgy and deliver the Sermon at the St. Peter Armenian Church in Van Nuys. The morning services will start at 9 a.m. and the Divine Liturgy 10 a.m. The Diocesan Primate will preside over the Church Services.
Upon the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy–there will be a Banquet at 1:30 p.m. at the AGBU Nazarian Center–6844 Oakdale Avenue–Canoga Park–CA 91306–under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian–Primate–with the active participation of the Organization of Istanbul Armenia’s of Los Angeles and the Khatchadourian Choir of St. Sarkis Armenian Church. Banquet donation is $75.
During the banquet–His Beatitude will inform everyone in detail–about the damages caused by the earthquake.
All the income derived from the Banquet and the Fund Raising–will be used for the renovation and toward assisting the suffering people resulting from the earthquake.
Western Primate Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian is appealing to all of our faithful to attend Church Services on Sunday–October 10 at St. Peter Armenian Church–as well as the Banquet and assist financially by extending their brotherly assistance to our people in need and towards renovating our Churches in Turkey.
Immediately following the earthquake– Archbishop Hovsepian and the Diocesan Council–established a Special Fund at the Western Diocese–to assist the earthquake victims in Turkey and to provide them with humanitarian assistance through the Armenian Patriarchate in Turkey.
The Lincy Foundation has consented to match the amount of donations received–up to $600,000.
