YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation presented a list of 70 candidates Friday to the Central Electoral Commission–for the majoritarian slot of the party for the May parliamentary elections.
The list is headed by ARF Executive Council of Armenia representative and presidential advisor Vahan Hovanessian–and includes–among others Executive Council member Armen Rustamian and current ARF member of parliament Rouben Hakopian.
The ARF has asked for 400 petitions for collecting the necessary signatures.
Thus far–the Self-Determination Union alliance–Orinats Yerkir and the ARF are the only parties that have filed for candidates at the CEC.
Hovanessian also met with a delegation of reporters from Azerbaijan and Georgian–who are visiting Armenian.
The reporters are in Armenia to take party in a media freedoms seminar organized by the Friedrich Neuman Foundation.
The reporters were mainly interested in Armenian internal political life and the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Hovanessian assured the journalists that the elections would take place within democratic norms and would be free and fair.
He added that the parties that are saying the elections will not be fair–are the elemen’s that do not have majority support.
In discussing Armenian relations with Georgian–Hovanessian assessed that in comparison–Georgian did not have a major ethnic minorities problem–citing as an example the community of Javakhk–which he said did not have separatist intentions.
Over the weekend–the reporters are scheduled to meet with their counterparts from Karabakh at a conference in Jermuk.
