YEREVAN–Nick Sigler–international secretary of the British Labour Party–arrived in Armenia January 29–upon the invitation of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau. The purpose of Sigler’s visit is to search for ways on expanding cooperation between the two socialist parties.
On Tuesday–January 30–Sigler met with the ARF Executive Council of Armenia and members of the ARF faction of the Parliament The Executive Council representatives at the meeting were Armen Roustamian–Edik Ghazarian–and Gegham Manoukian. The ARF parliamentarians present were Aghvan Vartanian and Alvard Petrosian. Sigler was accompanied by ARF Bureau member Mario Nalbandian–who is also the ARF’s representative to the Socialist Internationale. The meeting took place at the ARF Simon Vratzian Center.
Sigler’s second meeting was with the ARF Nigol Aghpalian Student Association and the Armenian Youth Federation of Armenia.
At both meetings–Armenia’s present socio-economic and political situation were discussed–along with the ARF’s approaches to these issues. The possibilities for further cooperation between the two political parties were also taken into consideration.
Nalbandian accompanied Sigler to the Tzitzernakaberd Genocide Monument and Museum.
Meetings between Sigler and ARF Bureau member Hrant Markarian were also held. Armenia’s political circumstances and regional issues were touched upon.
During his two-day visit to Armenia–Sigler also met with representatives of public organizations and parliamentary factions.
