BEIRUT (Aztag)–The representative of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau Hrant Markarian met Tuesday with Lebanese president Gen. Emile Lahoud. Accompanying Markarian at the meeting were ARF Lebanon Central Committee chairman Benjamin Btchaktchian and the chairman of the Armenian bloc in the Lebanese parliament Sebouh Hovnanian.
During the meeting–Markarian informed Lahoud about the recent ARF World Congress which convened in Armenia–at the conclusion of which a new Bureau was elected to lead the organization in the next four years.
Markarian added that the new Bureau decided that Lebanon would be the first community to be visited outside of Armenia–in order to emphasize the Lebanese-Armenian community’s unique role in the Armenian reality–as well as the important role of the ARF organization in Lebanon for the party.
The Bureau leader stressed that the ARF has and continues to support Lebanon’s territorial integrity and thanked Lahoud for the warm reception given to President Robert Kocharian who visited Lebanon last month. The Lebanese president was informed that the warm hospitality toward Kocharian was cheered in Armenia–where the people await the reciprocal visit by Lahoud.
In his turn–Lahoud promised to visit Armenia at the first available opportunity and praised the important role the Lebanese-Armenian community–as well as the ARF play in efforts to strengthen and rebuild Lebanon.
At the conclusion of the meeting–Lahoud presented Markarian with a momento.
