LOS ANGELES–A delegation representing the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Western Region Central Committee met Monday with Nagorno-Karabakh Republic President Arkady Ghoukassian, who is in Southern California to participate in the Armenia Fund Telethon. Also joining the delegation was ARF Bureau member Dr. Viken Hovsepian. Ghoukassian discussed the current socio-political situation in Karabakh and future government plans for economic and social reforms, as well as the upcoming constitutional referendum, scheduled for December. The ARF delegation, once again, stressed that the strengthening of the Karabakh statehood continued to be a priority for the party, which, as a supporter of the liberation struggle, continues to remain steadfast in ensuring a lasting victory in the region. Dr. Hovsepian outlined the possibilities of creating a positive environment within Congress toward the aspirations of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and efforts to secure the de jure independence of the republic. ARF Central Committee chairman Avedik Izmirlian discussed the Armenian-American community’s efforts on behalf of Karabakh, especially its participation in the upcoming telethon. Also joining the delegation were Nazareth Apanian, Aram Kaloustian and John Kossakian. Joining the president were the Nagorno-karabakh Republic representative to the US Vartan Barseghian and Primate of the Artsakh Diocese Archbishop Parkev Martirossian.
