STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Central Committee of Karabakh has announced that it will support the candidacy of incumbent Arkady Ghoukassian during the upcoming presidential elections.
According to Central Committee member Aliosha Kaprielian the results from the parliamentary and local elections indicate that the ARF would receive about 30 percent of votes cast in Karabakh–which would not guarantee a victory if the party were to run its own candidate. Given Ghoukassian’s position as a political strongman within Karabakh–the ARF representative stated that reforms could be realized through cooperation with the president.
Kaprielian also noted that in the case of Ghoukassian’s reelection–the president must allow the ARF to take on an active role within the economic activities of the state.
