YEREVAN–The Hayastan All-Armenian Fund revealed today that the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) was the first to respond to its call for more commitment in constructing the strategic North-South highway in Mountainous Karabagh. The North-South highway–stretching 170kilometers from Mardakerd to Hadrout–will provide necessary communication links–uniting more than a hundred towns and villages with the capital-Stepanakert–as well as the outside world–and will spur social and economic growth.
In a statement issued earlier this year–the Fund urged Armenian organizations around the world to contribute to fund raising to complete the major project.
The Fund said that the ARF has pledged $100,000 to help finish this vital project.
In November–the Fund will conduct its traditional telethon to raise additional funds for the highway’s completion.
In 1996–the ARF of Lebanon donated $250,000 to build the Goris-Stepanakert highway–which now ensures a safe and comfortable journey from Armenia to Stepanakert.
