STEPANAKERT (NOYAN TAPAN)–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s parliamentary bloc in Mountainous Karabagh Republic’s National Assembly would vote in favor of ratifying the 2004 state budget only if it corresponds to the needs and expectations of the population–according to ARF spokespersons.
The head of the party’s Karabagh parliamentary bloc–Vahram Balayan–announced the bloc’s position at a December 18 press conference called by the ARF Central Committee of Artsakh.
Balayan went on to state that the orientation of the 2004 MKR state budget does not correspond to the ARF’s conception of what is in the best interests of the state and the people when it comes to the progress and development of society.
Another spokesperson–political representative of the ARF in Karabagh Vahan Badasian–noted that the method for salary increases forecast in the budget has the potential to cause social upheaval because salaries would increase disproportionately for different segmen’s of society.
The result would be a growing chasm between high-ranking government officials and the vulnerable segmen’s of society–Badasian said.
He added that any action taken against the interests of the population–leading to a disruption of the harmony and unity of Karabagh society–is condemnable.
