YEREVAN (ARF Press)–The Socialist International Committee on Peace–Democracy and Human Rights met in Geneva–Palais des Nations–United Nations–on January 24-25–chaired by Prime Minister Milos Zeman of Czech Social Democratic Party.
The Armenian Revolutionary Federation–represented by Bureau member and ARF’s representative to SI Mario Nalbandian. The main theme of the conference was "Conflict prevention and conflict resolution." The participants examined ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world and efforts to reach peaceful solutions. The second theme on the Committee’s agenda was "Countries of concern to the Committee" during which various conflicts were discussed where the SI could play a decisive role in contributing to a peaceful resolution–including Belarus–Nepal and Indonesia.
During the discussions of the above mentioned topics–Mario Nalbandian spoke several times on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue–stressing the impetus of the conflict and efforts taken by Armenia to resolve the conflict.
Thirdly–the Committee addressed the issue of "Wealth and Poverty’ and the implications for peace–democracy and human rights worldwide.
Over 20 political parties The General Secretary of SI Louis Ayala and General Secretary of Women’s organization of SI Marlen Haas were also present at the meeting.
