ATHENS (ARF Press Service)–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation representatives Hripsime Harutunian and Dira Tsoukala Friday attended the two-day session of Socialist International Women’s organization’s annual convention.
The convention addressed several issues related to women’s rights and the woman’s role in modern-day society under the slogan of “Women’s Rights are Human Rights.”
As a full-fledged member of the organization, the ARF took part in the election of a new board.
A special ceremony marking the Socialist International Women’s organization’s 100th anniversary was held and featured a video presentation of the organization’s activities and the emerging role of women in politics.
Socialist International president Yorgho Papandreou and Secretary General Luis Ayala both addressed the convention on its second day of business.
SIW’s Secretary General Marlene Haas made a special mention of the Regional Representative Assembly of the organization, which took place last year in Yerevan, hosted by the ARF.
