YEREVAN (Yerevan News Agency)–President Robert Kocharian received on Thursday participants from the ARF Press Convention–including editors of ARF periodicals from around the world.
The President welcomed his guests and noted that similar meetings and gatherings in Armenia have become commonplace. He added that Armenia’s ties with the Diaspora have been strengthened as a result of various activities in Armenia.
"The Diaspora has the ability to play an important role in the development of Armenia’s political–economic and spiritual life," said Kocharian.
Kocharian noted that Armenia-Diaspora relations depend on the resolution of the issue of dual citizenship–and that the political nature of the nation today veers toward stronger economic ties with the Diaspora.
The President stressed the importance of the press–especially the Armenian Diasporan press–in strengthening relations between the Diaspora and Armenia. According to the President–it is necessary to develop a cooperative communication field to keep the Diasporan Armenia’s informed about Armenia’s political life–economic status–and educational and cultural development.
Answering questions from those present at the meeting–Kocharian addressed future economic development plans and noted that the strengthening of Armenia’s economy has been noticeable month by month.
"Miracles are not taking place," said the President–but he added that improvemen’s are taking place and will continue to take place only with the necessary daily hardwork. Kocharian said that the government has also experienced a number of serious changes in light of economic changes.
