GENEVA–An Armenian Revolutionary Federation delegation attended the Socialist International Congress–which began Monday and concluded Tuesday at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
Representing the ARF were the party’s Bureau chairman Beno Tontian–ARF Executive Council of Armenia chairman Vahan Hovanessian and ARF representative to SI–Mario Nalbandian.
Hovanessian and Nalbandian also participated Sunday in a session of the Socialist International Committee for Central and Eastern Europe–which focused on the ongoing crisis in Kosovo in the Balkans.
The two ARF representatives also had the opportunity to discuss the situation and political realities concerning Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
The ARF delegation Monday visited the new Permanent Mission of Armenia at the UN headquarters in Geneva and met with ambassador Karen Nazarian. During the meeting a healthy exchange of issues occurred–with Nazarian briefing his guests on the Armenian mission’s activities in the UN.
Last Thursday and Friday–ARF representative Hilda Choboian participated in the Socialist International Women’s Congress where she presented a talk entitled "Women’s Rights as Human Rights." In her remarks Choboian also discussed the past and present role of the Armenian women and the status of Armenian women in Armenia and the Diaspora.
