ANKARA (Turkish Daily News)–Turkey’s Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc said on Wednesday–"there was no stain such as genocide in the history of Turkish people."
Arinc said that he regretted the words of Greece’s Parliament Speaker Apostolos Kaklaman’s who–during an event commemorating the Armenian Genocide called for the Turkish acknowledgment of its slaughter in 1915 of an estimated 1.5 million Armenia’s would settle the country’s "unpaid debt to mankind."
Arinc added–”these words of Mr. Kaklaman’s do in no way serve the Turkish-Greek friendship we are trying to improve. There is no such stain in the history of the Turkish people. Preservation of religions and cultures of peoples living under the rule of the Ottomans and continuation of their existence as a nation today show the tolerance and values of humanity in our history. Therefore–I won’t recommend Mr. Kaklaman’s any other thing than to examine history once more.”
