BEER SHEVA–Israel–Armenia beat the Chinese women’s team Tuesday during the seventh round the World Chess Championships–elevating its status to third overall.
China beat the USA 3.5-0.5 to pull away with the lead at 19.5 points–4 points ahead of second running Russia which drew a bye in the competition.
China still has to face Armenia while Russia has only the Chinese women in their path. The stage is set for the exciting last round between China and Russia.
During Monday’s round–China beat Olympiad champion Ukraine 2.5-1.5 to maintain its slim lead with 16 points–half a point ahead of Russia which beat Armenia by the same score to trail with 15.5 points.
In other matches–Georgia crushed Cuba 3:1 while the USA blanked the Chinese Women 4:0.
Armenia drew a bye in the fifth round of the competition–as each team sits out one round.
