YEREVAN—The Armenian Government on Thursday approved the motion to declare December 9 as the Day of Commemoration of Victims of all Genocides.
The measure was proposed by Members of Parliament Artak Zakaryan, Zaruhi Postanjyan, Koryun Nahapetyan, Shirak Torosyan, and Alexander Arzumanyan.
The date was chosen considering that the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG) on December 9, 1948.
The Government, however, rejected another bill that was proposed by Zaruhi Postanjyan on “The occupation of Armenian lands by the Republic of Turkey and the Deprivation of Armenians of their Motherland.”
Strange, why was the other bill that by Zaruhi Postanjyan rejected? I know there is not much reporting on its content, but on the surface it seems like a legitimate proposal. After all, who would argue against Armenian lands in Turkey and the deprivation of Armenians of their motherland?
This is either poor journalistic reporting or a cover up by the government. Interesting to see if it’ll ever be investigated.
